Sonderling Nominated as Secretary of Labor
President Trump announced the nomination of Keith Sonderling as the Secretary of Labor, following the departure of Lori Chavez-DeRemer, who stepped down in April. Sonderling was confirmed by the Senate as the Deputy Secretary of Labor on March 12, 2025, and subsequently designated by President Trump as the Acting Secretary of Labor on April 20, 2026. He will face a similar nomination process with the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee for his new post.
Prior to serving as Deputy Secretary, Sonderling was confirmed by the Senate to serve as the Commissioner of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) from September 2020 until August 2024. He previously served at the Department of Labor as the Acting and Deputy Administrator of the Wage and Hour Division from 2017 to 2020.
